3 Signs You Might Have Rats Or Mice In Your House

No one wants to have wild mice and rats wandering around their house. If you think that you have some rodents in your house, you should call the exterminator to check your house out for you. But, there are some signs that you can look for that can give you a good idea as to whether or not you have rodents wandering through your house. You may also be able to point the exterminator to any of those signs so that they can tell you if you do have rodents. So, what are some of those signs?

Nibbled Boxes

One sign that you might have rats or mice wandering through your house is that food packages and boxes will have been nibbled on. The rodents want to get into the food in those packages so that they can share in your generosity. The rodents can sense the food in the containers, and they are going to chew on everything to try to get into the food. Check all your packaging for chew marks. You can transfer all your more fragile and chewable packaging into glass, metal, or plastic containers with airtight lids.

Strange Smell

You will notice that there is a strange or foul odor that hasn't been around before. It can smell kind of musky. If you have dogs or cats, they may be agitated in the areas where you smell it. In fact, you might have noticed that they were attracted to that area before you noticed a smell because cats and dogs have a better sense of smell than humans do. You might also notice that you hear scrabbling or chewing in the same area as well.

Greasy Streaks

Another sign that you might have rats or mice in your house is that you see greasy streaks or runways where the rodents walk regularly. The grease of their bodies and other fluids that they leave around will discolor those areas. The more the rodents walk around the area, the more you are going to see those marks. If you aren't sure if any particular area is still seeing traffic from your four-legged visitors, you can always sprinkle some baby powder around the area and check back in the morning. If you see tracks, it's a pretty good sign that you have rats or mice.

If you are worried about whether or not you have rodents in your house, you should call an exterminator and ask them to help you eliminate the rodents.
